"It's just one straw" said 8 billion people.

The crowdfunding project will be a metal straw campaign, where plastic straws are replaced with metal straws to reduce the usage of plastic straws. Most plastics don’t decompose or biodegrade and stays around for hundreds of years thus resulting microplastics floating around the ocean, poisoning animals and hurting the environment.

The proposition of this project is to create awareness and reduce the usage of plastic straws. Endangered and non-endangered species are dying because of the plastic wastes floating around the ocean and is seriously damaging the environment. Half the people are still not aware of how harmful these wastes and they need to be informed to protect the environment’s health. Save the animals and save our home.

The project funds will be used to give out free metal straws to students who are using plastic straws around the campus, to promote awareness of how harmful a small straw can be. All funders of the project will also receive metal straw as a token of appreciation in supporting the project. Receipts and activity of the funds will be provided for funders of this project.

The graph below is the rate of global plastic production. We can see how heavily plastics are used in different products due to it's light weight characteristics and cheap in cost. The graph shows how exponential is the production and the waste produced from the products will contribute to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a gyre of plastic debris in the north-central Pacific Ocean. It’s the largest accumulation of plastic in the world. How big is it? Let's compare it with the world map scale. 

Take a look at the huge red patch filled with plastic debris, contributing to global warming, harming habitats of aquatic animals and so on. The patch is only getting bigger day by day.  Not only that, the problem is growing into a crisis. The fossil fuel industry plans to increase plastic production by 40 percent over the next decade. These oil giants are rapidly building petrochemical plants across the United States to turn fracked gas into plastic. This means more toxic air pollution and plastic in our oceans.

We need urgent action to address the global plastic pollution epidemic. Please lend your helping hand, it may be a small project but it will be impactful in some ways you can never imagine.

Risk and Challenges

There are a few factors that will affect the project such as when the supposed metal straw providers or the delivery courrier does not ship the goods on time thus, might result to a slight delay to the project. Therefore, to overcome this, we have gaped the project to take place a week after the crowd funding project ends on mystartr. 

The delivery for rewards to funders might also be delayed due to this issue, but we sincerely hope if it does happen, we sincerely apologise for the delay.
